Aliwal Shoal

August 9, 2011 in

We had a great winter dive this morning, 20 deg. C water temp at least 30m viz and no current, slight surge. We started of at Raggie cave, still a few sharks hanging around, three turtles were spotted and to many reef fish to even try make a list.(my favorite was the longnose butterfly and firegoby in a small overhang) The best way to round off the dive was three wales (one a baby) on the way back. a realy great day was had by all

Lake Michigan wrecks

May 29, 2011 in

The great lakes offer a wide variety of shipwrecks in very good condition. They are at all depths from 15′ to 300″ + so there is something for everyone. I dive out of Chicago, Waukegan and Milwaukee Wisconsin for the best variety of wrecks. This year there was anew find of the R. L. Doty, a ship that went down 112 years ago, that lays perfectly preserved near Milwaukee Wisconsin. I personally got to dive on a newly discovered 3 masted schooner out of Chicago that we believe went down in 1890. It lays at 147′ on its keel with all mast and rigging present. It looks like it went down a year ago. It has yet to be identified.
