Take Part in a Guinness World Record™ Attempt

May 10, 2011 in Announcements

To launch our liveaboard booking engine ScubaClick Ltd is organizing a Guinness World Record™ attempt in the category ‘Most People Scuba Diving’ in Swanage, Dorset, United Kingdom. The event will take place on Saturday the 24th September 2011 with Sunday the 25th being reserved should the weather not be favourable on the Saturday.

Now, all we need is you! First and foremost we need divers to take part. The current record is held by the Indonesian Navy with 2.486 divers diving simultaneously in August 2009. To help with surface cover we need kayak operators as well as dive boat operators.

The primary aim of the world record attempt is to raise money for local and national charities such as:

  • Swanage Heroes Haven: a registered local charity raising money to purchase, equip and run a specially adapted log cabin for the use of disabled service personnel and their families on a local holiday park in Swanage
  • The RNLI: a charity for beach and sea safety
  • The Scuba Trust: a disabled diving charity

All divers will be asked to pay £10 to take part in the event and to raise further money through personal sponsorship. We thus hope to raise over £150,000 for charitable causes.

Please follow this link for further information on the event. Hope to see you all in Swanage celebrating the new record!

Avatar Uploads & New Payment Options for Dive Schools

December 9, 2010 in Announcements, New Features

You probably have noticed that the upload of user and dive school avatars did not work during the last couple of weeks. We truly apologize for the inconvenience caused!

But we are happy to inform you that this problem is fixed now and you should be able to upload your avatar and thus be able to complete your profiles on ScubaVagabonds.com.

Moreover we have added two more payment methods for dive shops. Besides PayPal you now have the option to pay the commissions for successful bookings by MoneyGram or bank transfer. To change your method of payment please visit ”Your dive school > Admin > Dive School Settings”.

Moderation Tools

October 13, 2010 in Announcements

Hello Everybody,

on most pages and many activity items you can now find a flag link at the bottom. Clicking this link will notify both myself and Stefan that something might be wrong with this item. This gives us a chance to review the item and decide for ourselves whether we leave it as it is or remove the item.

Over the next couple weeks we will enable moderation tools for more and more content types. Once we’re done Stefan, myself and you, our users, will be able to moderate any kind of content here on ScubaVagabonds.

We also need your help in moderating content. By working together we can all help keep ScubaVagabonds clean :)

Have a nice day!

Upgrades to Events

October 12, 2010 in Announcements

Anybody who visited ScubaVagabonds in the last few minutes probably experienced some site problems. These happened due to our upgrades to Events. We have included a calendar and it is now possible for any member of an event to invite their friends. Events can now be scheduled in regular intervals and the number of attendees can be restricted. There were also some minor improvements, like search capability and sorting of events.

Head on over to our events page and check it out!

Improvements to Locations

October 10, 2010 in Announcements

Over the last few days we have noticed that in some cases the location of a dive school was not geocoded properly from the address. The reason for this was that Google did not recognize the street name and returned no information. We have now slightly changed the way this is being handled and every dive school should now show a proper Google map on their profile.

Please respond to this post should you still experience any problems with dive school locations on maps!

New Tutorials

September 30, 2010 in Announcements

So, we have finally been able to publish a couple video tutorials for dive shop owners and managers. The first one covers how to set up your dive school and the second one shows you how to set up your courses and dives.

Enjoy!

Next Steps

September 28, 2010 in Announcements

Hello Everybody!

ScubaVagabonds has been online for only a few days and by now we have started an active campaign to aquire new users and dive shops.

For this release we have concentrated mainly on the features and let’s be honest, there’s a lot on offer for divers and dive schools! There are still some more features in development, like accomodation bookings and photo upload for users, but we have also started development on a new look. We will take our time with this theme to make it as intuitive and functional as possible. At the moment we’re still in the planning stages. Here’s a first screenshot of how it could possible look like:

Please note that this is only a first try and things are likely to change. We will keep you updated on our progress!

Connecting Divers & Dive Shops with Silicon Grease & Bubbles

After months of development we are happy and proud to finally release our social network ScubaVagabonds.com. Sceptics may ask: “There are already so many different social networks. Do we really need another one?”. The answer is definitely “Yes, of course!” as ScubaVagabonds.com is a niche social network focusing on scuba diving and all aspects connected with it. Planning and developing this site, we always had the wishes and needs of divers and dive shops in mind.

We are placing great value on your feedback for a further enhancement of ScubaVagabonds. So if you are having some great features or improvements in mind that are still missing, please let us know.

ScubaVagabonds.com is free to join. Register now and get your free account!

For dive shops only: A booking fee may only apply in case of confirmed bookings. No commission will be charged for cancelled bookings and no show-ups.

Promotion:

Among all shops registering until December 31, 2011, 50 dive shops drawn by lot will save their commission on their first 10 bookings made in 2012! The 50 dive shops will be informed on January 5, 2012 by mail and in the ScubaVagabonds.com blog.
